Goalkeeper breaks leg

FOOTBALL: THE Huddersfield and District League Reserves Division Two derby between Diggle and Uppermill was abandoned after 65 minutes when the home side’s goalkeeper broke his leg in two places.
Gary Pemberton suffered a fractured right fibula and tibula when he accidentally kicked an opposition player’s knee.
The referee immediately called a halt to proceedings and an ambulance was called.
Pemberton (40), who underwent surgery at Royal Oldham Hospital, said: “My eight-year-old son, Zak, was behind the goal and I am glad he did not see the injury close-up.
Diggle were losing 4-0 when the incident occured, and Pemberton said the victory should be awarded to Uppermill.
Heyside reserves lost 5-0 at Slaithwaite United.
The first team progressed to the next round of the MCFA Amateur Cup courtesy of a 7-6 victory over Hollinwood reserves.
Carl Winstanley scored five. Michael McCabe and James Leonard also found the net.
In Division One, Diggle beat Lepton Highlanders 6-0, while Uppermill were beaten 4-2 at Britannia Sports.
