NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL:

MOSSLEY strolled to a 4-1 victory at Shepshed Dynamo in the FA Trophy first qualifying round.

Mike Fish gave the Lilywhites the lead after 10 minutes with a deft lob, before a fine solo effort from Steve Settle doubled the advantage 15 minutes later.

Settle turned provider after half-an-hour, feeding Mike Oates, who pounced from close range.

The hosts pulled a goal back before the break through Lheureux Menga, but Shaun Higgins’ men were comfortable after the interval and Fish’s long-range drive with seven minutes remaining sealed the win.

Higgins said: “We are in a rich vein of form at the moment. The lads are enjoying their football.

“We want to do well in every competition and we have got a bit of a run going at the moment in this one and in the FA Cup.

“I think we definitely deserved the win and we should have been out of sight in the first half.

“The difference between now and the start of the season is that we are taking our chances.

“We never had a problem creating opportunities but we were not putting them away.

“Now we are a bit more clinical in front of goal.”

Mossley have now gone six games unbeaten in all competitions, having scored 16 times in the last four matches.

The only negative was an injury sustained by Andy Watson in the second half, which saw him suffer bruising on his foot.

OLDHAM Boro picked up their second win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Ashton Town in the Vodkat North-West Counties League Division One.

A Michael Schofield brace earned the points for Tony Mills’ men, who went behind after seven minutes when Steve Hill pounced.

Man of the match Schofield equalised from close range after 24 minutes before sealing the triumph with a 35 yard volley 20 minutes before the end.

Mills said: “This was long overdue and hopefully we can use the result as a springboard.

“Schofield’s winner was fantastic. He led by example.

“We are going to need players like Michael stepping up to the plate this season if we are going to climb the table.”

Chadderton went down to a 4-2 home defeat at the hands of FC Darwen.

Keith Melvin gave Paul Buckley’s team the lead after half-an-hour, before Bobby Langford levelled matters for the visitors shortly after the break.

Christopher Smalley gave Darwen the lead after 69 minutes, but Danny Shaw pulled Chadderton level with 13 minutes remaining.

However, two goals in the last eight minutes from Jon Leeming and Steve Lee saw Darwen leave with all three points.
