IN school life, we are taught the three 'R' s as the basis of our education.
But it was another set of three 'R' s that taught High Crompton a lesson in the Jack Abbott Premier Division of the D and J Builders (North-West) Ltd Oldham Sunday League.
In this case it was Rifle Range Reds, who fought back from 3-1 down to claim a point with two late goals at New Barn playing fields.
Steven Challinor stepped into the manager's shoes for High Crompton in the absence of Stuart Lomas.
And Challinor must have thought his side to be home and dry when they led 3-1 with 10 minutes left.
But the turning point of an absorbing encounter came after 71 minutes with the dismissal of High Crompton's Anthony Jones for a last-man challenge which produced a red card from the pocket of referee Mick Rawes.
Challinor said: "You can't argue about the decision to give a penalty, the law says it's a penalty and that's that".
But just when Challinor was looking forward to ringing Lomas with news of three points, the Reds roared back and made full use of their numerical advantage with point-saving strikes, the decisive one just two minutes from time courtesy of Ashley Young.
