Honeywell buzzing after double joy

TABLE TENNIS: HONEYWELL ‘B’ are the most improved team in Division One of the Oldham league this season.

Thanks to the excellent form of Tom Ryan and Steve Barber, accompanied by the additions of Peter Fowler and Lucas Maciejewski to their the squad, they sit third in the table.

To show how far they have progressed, Honeywell registered superb 7-3 and 8-2 wins over MC & MA and Hollinwood ‘A’ respectively.

They stormed into a 7-0 lead against MC & MA, only to be pegged back. Fowler recorded maximums in both matches.

The same could be said of Uppermill in Division Two, who are up to second in the standings on the back of some great team performances from Mark Simpson, Dave Grundy and Keith Moores.

Uppermill were most impressive in defeating Hyde ‘B’ 9-1 and they displayed plenty of determination to overcome Unison ‘A’ 6-4.

Hyde ‘A’ defeated their ‘B’ team counterparts 8-2 to maintain their position at the top of the table. Ken Ward and Geoff Ogden bagged three wins apiece.

The comeback of the week was in Division Three, where Saddleworth ‘B’, who were 4-1 down in their match with Unison ‘C’, recovered superbly to triumph 6-4.

There were two victories apiece for Tony Prescott and Alex Griffiths.

Basement boys Honeywell ‘F’ had a good 7-3 win at Uppermill ‘B’. Lee Rowbotham scored a treble and Aaron Rowbotham an excellent double.

In the Our Lady’s derby in Division Four, leaders the ‘A’ team beat their ‘B’ team 8-2.

There were excellent performance from the ‘A’ team’s Matt Kelly, who won three, while Callum Allman (’B’ side) enjoyed a double.

Dave Bottomley, of new-boys Dobcross, landed a treble against an experienced Honeywell ‘G’ team, but they were his team’s only points in a 7-3 reverse.
