Bamford’s partial win

CRICKET: BAMFORD Fieldhouse have had their fine reduced to £250 in the incident which saw one of their players banned for three years.

The Hollin Lane outfit won a partial victory in an appeal, which was held in front of a three-man panel. However, a 20 points deduction still stands and comes into operation next season.

Bamford, the reigning Saddleworth League champions, were punished for failing to control one of their players, Jack Kelliher, in the game against Moorside on September 5.

Kelliher struck Chris Entwistle with his bat after reacting to a comment made by the Moorside fielder. He was on his way out to bat when the event occurred. Kelliher was led from the field and took no further part in the match.

Bamford were originally fined £500, but argued they couldn’t have foreseen the incident.

Entwistle had his two-game ban for using abusive language cut to one on appeal, with a further two matches suspended until the end of 2011.

THE Saddleworth League and the CLL are on a semi-final collision course in next season’s Reader Lancashire Inter-League competition.
But first the Saddleworth League must overcome the Bolton League, while the Lancashire County League stand in the way of the CLL and a place in the last four.

“TUCK your shirt in, please” could be the call from umpires next season in the Saddleworth and District Cricket League.
Players will be forbidden to wear shirts outside of the trousers in 2011 if the new ‘get smart’ proposal is approved.

The suggestion also states that every member on the field must wear full white clothing, except for cricket caps and protective helmets.

Players cannot bowl in shirts with coloured under arm or side panels, and logos can only be displayed on shirt collars, breast pockets or just above, except for a logo featuring a club’s sponsor which may appear on the back of the garment.

Baseball caps won’t be permitted, unless it is in a cricket style.
