Aspin seals first win

AMATEUR RUGBY: FITTON Hill Bulldogs finally claimed their first victory of the season when they saw off Little Hulton Reds 16-10 at home in Kukri North-West Counties League Division Six.
After suffering seven straight defeats, the scenes of jubilation that greeted the final whistle came as no surprise.
Despite a hard-working display, Bulldogs found themselves 4-0 down at the interval.
Man-of-the-match Mark Fitton levelled matters shortly after the break after good work from John Souter and Joe Tindall.
The visitors hit back with a converted try to regain the lead at 10-4, but Bulldogs were determined tonot let another game slip away.
Centre Michael Hill touched down before John Souter crossed to give the hosts a 12-10 advantage.
Nerves were jangling as the clock ticked but Eddie Aspin’s try secured the win.
Bulldogs coach Jason Donbervand said: “We felt like we had won the World Cup when the whistle was blown!”
Oldham St Anne’s could not raise a team for their Division One clash with Roose Pioneers, and were handed an automatic 18-0 defeat.
Division Three action saw Higginshaw go down to a 30-4 home loss at the hands of second-placed Irlam Hornets.
Saddleworth Rangers were awarded an 18-0 win after opponents Leigh Central Lions failed to raise a team. Rangers are third in the table.
