Title glory for talented teenager

TEENAGER Connor Barlow is acknowledged as being among the best up-and-coming anglers in the country.

And the Tameside Fox ace enhanced his reputation with victory in the NJAA Intermediate Challenge Championship on the Aire and Calder Canal.

Barlow used bloodworm and joker at six and 13 metres for a match-winning five kilos 140grams of silver fish.

Barnsley won the team event with Tameside Fox in third.

EON Wilson recorded yet another win in the Tameside Federation matches on Stonepits.
While his rivals struggled for bites, Wilson finished with a level 2lb of roach and a solitary skimmer on caster close in at 12 metres.

Les Aubert, the runner-up, used maggot short and long for 1lb 9oz of roach and one crucian.

Third-best Steve Roberts had a crucian and a few bits on the long pole and maggot for 1lb.

Roberts went two better with a win in the Vymura AC fur and feather match on Stonepits.

Employing maggot and pinkie at various lengths, he landed a good skimmer together with plenty of small roach for 2lb 8oz.

Phil France, in second place, caught a good roach in a 2lb 6oz 10drams net which fell to pinkie at eight and 10 metres.

Wilson was third on this occasion, with caster at eight and 12 metres attracting a 2lb 5oz 6drams bag of roach up to eight ounces.

Alan Makin, in fourth, had 1lb 10oz 10drams of bits on pinkie at 11 metres.

MALC Rogerson claimed top spot in the Brookside open with a mixed net of 35lb 10oz.
The Fox Match rod followed up with a second place on the same venue thanks to a 38lb bag. Connor Barlow was fifth with 31lb.

JOHN Shellam, of Stalybridge Angling, was third in the Brookside Thursday open on Snake Lake with a 50lb 10oz net.
