Brennan eyes Crusaders scalp

FRESH from beating high-flying Leigh Miners Rangers, Saddleworth face another table-top challenge in the National Conference League Premier Division tomorrow.

Keith Brennan’s side, who were full value for their 22-10 triumph, visit Thatto Heath Crusaders.

Leigh’s third defeat allowed Thatto, last season’s champions of Division One, to go top on points difference after a 38-20 success at home to Siddal.

And Saddleworth are relishing another chance to pit their wits against one of the front-runners.

“The players realise they can’t go into such games half-hearted,” said Brennan. “I know they don’t approach any another games in that way.

“We had a great win last week. We didn’t up our performance — we played how we know we can play. It’s about having belief in our ability.

“Thatto are a very good side. We had two great games of rugby against them last season.”

OLDHAM St Anne’s coach Mick Cashin is warning his players to be on their guard for the trip to lowly Eccles in Division One tomorrow.
A narrow win over Castleford Panthers last weekend lifted the Saints into sixth place.

Yet to register a victory away from home so far this season, Cashin’s team will have high hopes of breaking their hoodoo.

With just two points from seven games, Eccles are languishing at the foot of the table.

But Cashin said: “We always have some tough tussles with Eccles and, even though they are at the bottom, this weekend will be no different.

“They have only had one win this season, but are playing well and running opponents close.”

David Cookson has recovered from a dislocated toe, but fellow second-rower Danny Crimes is absent because of a shoulder injury, while prop Andy Sands is also ruled out with a torn leg muscle.

In contrast to their two local rivals, WATERHEAD are on a recovery mission in Division Two.

They lock horns with Heworth, who are two place and one point ahead of the visitors in ninth.
