TABLE TENNIS ROUND-UP
GLODWICK, the reigning champions, put table-toppers Saddleworth ‘A’ in their place in Division One of the Oldham Table Tennis League.
Looking to retain their crown, they inflicted a 10-0 whitewash on the Saddleworth side, who slip to third place as a result.
In Division Two, hosts Hollinwood ‘C’ and counterparts Honeywell shared the spoils in a 5-5 draw.
It was a cracking encounter, with numerous games going to deuce.
doubles
Hollinwood had doubles from Nathan Buckley and Joe Redikin, while Barrie Royle and Brian Higgins bagged a brace apiece for Honeywell.
The Unison ‘B’ versus Pennine clash also ended all-square, with Andrew Tarpey winning all three for the former.
Oldham Owls ‘A’ inflicted a first team of the season on St Saviour’s ‘A’ in Division Three.
It would have been much worse for Saints but for Brian Huskinson’s treble.
The match between Honeywell ‘E’ and Werneth ‘E’ was full of tension.
Pete Ganley and Derek Naylor scored two each for Honeywell, but their efforts were more than matched by Suresh Patel’s treble in the concluding doubles which clinched a 5-5 draw.
In Division Four, Bobby Crossley stared for Hollinwood ‘E’, who had a good week.
They brushed aside Dobross 8-2 in a re-arranged game, with Crossley and Tom Farrell winning three apiece.
Confidence high, Hollinwood went to defeat Owls ‘B’ 6-4, which included another two victories for Crossley. Colin Ogden’s treble for the Owls was in vain.
