GLODWICK, leaders of the Oldham and District Table Tennis League Division One, displayed their title credentials with a 9-1 defeat of nearest rivals BAE ‘A’.

Mick Moir and Andy Jackson notched trebles, while Tony Bates’ straight sets defeat of Jeff Craighill was BAE’s sole reward.

BAE ‘B’ team recorded a much-needed 6-4 win over their Hollinwood counterparts, courtesy of a Mick Hill treble, along with singles from Ian Byrne and Eddie Kalinowski.

Nathan Buckley and Matty Evans won two apiece for Hollinwood.

In Division Two, promotion chasers Uppermill ‘A’ and Droylsden fought out a 5-5 draw.

Miles Benjamin won three for Droylsden, with Keith Moores and Mark Simpson bagging doubles for Uppermill.

Andrew Tarpey was the star of the show for the ‘B’ team in the Unison derby.

He notched a hat-trick of wins, but was unable to prevent the ‘A’ team of Andy Hey, Allan Auxilly and Mike Brierley from winning 6-4.

After defeating Division Three pacesetters St Saviour’s, Oldham Owls were held to a surprise 5-5 draw by Grotton ‘B’, who had Dave Morris to thank for a treble. Dave Harthan and Paul Woodward won two apiece for the Owls.

Meanwhile, Uppermill ‘B’ had a good 6-4 win over Gilders to ease their relegation concerns.

Howard Meadham claimed three victories for Uppermill, with Stuart Hanson helping herself to a double.

Ged Lennox won two for Gilders, both on deuce in the fifth set.

The youngsters of Hollinwood ‘E’ put up a good fight against Division Four promotion hopefuls Coldhurst ‘D’.

Adam Newton and Bobby Crossley registered two victories for Hollinwood, but were unable to stave off a 6-4 defeat. Phil Mellor and Wayne Carter had doubles for Coldhurst.

Elena Tepelus, of Our Lady’s ‘C’, continued her fine form with a treble and a double in her team’s 5-5 draws with Coldhurst ‘E’ and Coppice, for whom Fred Pickles played well to claim a treble
