Oldham double up

OLDHAM firsts had a double cause for celebration.
They remained top of the Greater Manchester League after a 1-0 victory at Didsbury, and followed up 24 hours later with a 2-1 win at home to Urmston in round one of the All-England Cup.
Oldham, thanks to a last-gasp goal from Rebecca Blair, maintained their lead role in Division One.
For the first time this season, Oldham were put under pressure, and were grateful for a fine display by ’keeper Sarah Simpson.
She denied the home side with save after save, and her efforts were rewarded when Blair struck late on.
Oldham came out with all guns blazing in the All England Cup, and went in front when a cross from Laura Rice was converted by Karen Rowley.
Oona Cassidy doubled the hosts’ advantage moments later with a solo goal typical of the player.
The second half was a different story as Urmston halved the deficit and threatened to score an equaliser.
However, Simpson and sweeper Lesley Beddow were on top form to keep the visitors at bay for the remainder of the match.
Oldham’s third team faced Didsbury Greys in round two of the Greater Manchester All-Divisions Cup.
But despite having a one-goal advantage — Oldham were given a head start as they are one division below their opponents — they slipped to a 2-1 defeat.
