Deja vu for Hollinwood
Date published: 11 November 2010
HOLLINWOOD suffered a second-half collapse to slip to a third defeat of the season in Division Five of the Pennine League.
Leading 34-12 at the break, the local outfit were left reeling after hosts Guisley Rangers stormed back to win 42-40.
It was a case of deja vu for Hollinwood, who also wasted a big advantage against Newsome Panthers seven days earlier.
They scored six tries in the opening period through Paddy Jennings (two), Warren Taylor, Ian Hunt, J Byram and Andy Gorey, with the latter converting five of them. The one Gorey missed from the touchline hit a post.
The second half started with man-of-the-match Peter Davies crossing, with Gorey adding the extras.
Hollinwood appeared home and dry but Rangers, who were now playing down the slope, had other ideas.
The home side got back in the game with scores at regular intervals, until they trailed by just four points.
Hollinwood still looked to have done enough to clinch a fifth league win of the season.
However, with time almost up, Rangers recorded a converted try to snatch the spoils and break Hollinwood’s hearts.
Hollinwood will look to regain the winning thread at home to lowly King Cross Park ‘A’ on Saturday.
