ROAD, track or muddy fields, they all come the same to talented cyclist Matthew Walls.

The Crompton House pupil is enjoying a stellar year on two wheels.

He was crowned a national champion and also won three individual North-West titles.

The highlight was Matthew’s success in the under-12s section of the National Road Series, thanks to a string of impressive performances.

It got under way in March and comprised of 10 events, at venues including Lincoln and the Isle of the Mann

Matthew (12), from High Crompton, racked up 180 points, finishing eight clear of Leicestershire RC’s Charlotte Broughton.

He will receive his award alongside senior winners at a glittering ceremony organised by British Cycling early in the New Year.

The Eastlands Velo rider also topped the category ‘C’ rankings in his age group for the road and track.

Matthew is now concentrating on the North-West Cyclo-Cross Championship, where he is up against riders who are, in some cases, up to four years older.

He has already represented the North-West in the National Inter-Area Team Championships in Leicester.
