Diggle suffer shock defeat

DIGGLE went down to a surprise 2-0 defeat at home to Cumberworth in the Huddersfield and District League Division One.
Despite the loss at Churchill Playing Fields, Diggle remain third in the table.
Uppermill were made to fight all the way by Old Centralians in the second round of the West Riding County Challenge Cup, before earning a 4-3 win at Greenfield Paper Mill.
The hosts were 3-0 up within the first 15 minutes as goals from Ventress, Walton and Poulter left their opponents shell-shocked.
The Ventress strike, a 30-yard lob, was the pick of the bunch.
The visitors pulled one back against the run of play after 21 minutes.
But within five minutes of the restart Uppermill extended their lead.
The goalkeeper spilled the ball and Ventress was on hand to slip it home.
Two late Old Centralians goals kept the pressure on the hosts until the end.
Heyside lost their first game of the Division Three campaign, beaten 3-0 by Saville Town.
In Reserves Division Two, Heyside were edged out 4-3 by Netherton ‘A’.
Matthew Nokes scored a brace and Danny Cashin was also on the mark for Heyside.
