Clegg top of the class

Angling: CHADDERTON angler Steve Clegg showed his class in the Bradshaw Fisheries open match on lake four.

Using maggot on the long pole, the Saints rod registered a match-winning 19lb 6oz of silvers.

Lee Addy, the runner-up, had 18lb 4oz, while Jimmy Hines was third with 16lb 2oz.


STEVE Hamer came out on top in Todmorden AS’s final trophy match of the year.
He bagged a 25lb net of three carp and a bream on legered meat. Hamer also landed the best fish of the day, an 8lb mirror carp.

Rob McEndry was second-best with 20lb 6oz of small carp and skimmers, tempted by pellet on the long pole.

Paul Wilkinson, in third place, opted for the pole and worm approach for 11lb 4oz of small carp.

The first trophy match of 2011 is on February 6.


CENTURIAN AC are holding their presentation night at Springbank Bowling Club, Chadderton, on Thursday, December 2 (8pm).
Trophies must be returned on the night, while subscriptions are also due.

Centurian boast a superb match list, with most of the events on Saturdays.

The club were the fist to fish commercials on a regular basis and their results are outstanding.


THE first of two opens organised by Todmorden AS on the Rochdale Canal takes place on Sunday.
This weekend’s competition is being staged at Smithybridge, while Castleton is the venue for the second match on Sunday, December 5.

A COLD wind failed to put off the hardy souls in the Pilsworth Fishery open, although weights were not as as high as usual.
The winner, thanks to a mixture of carp and bream, was Roy Gough, who tipped the scales at 14lb 4oz.

Dave Williams, in second place, had a similar net of 12lb 6oz.

There was a gap to third, with Royton angler Keith Smith returning 7lb 8oz.
