NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL: CHADDERTON produced a fine attacking display at Leek CSOB, clinching a 4-1 victory in the Vodkat North-West Counties League Division One clash.

After going behind to Lee Turner’s strike, the visitors’ top scorer, James Curley, levelled matters in the 20th-minute.

John Rogers gave Paul Buckley’s side the psychological edge when he put them in front just before the break.

A contender for goal of the season followed directly from the restart.

The ball was played to Chadderton’s Keith Melvin, who beat three men before unleashing an unstoppable drive into the top corner from 25 yards.

Adam Edwards put the icing on the cake with the away side’s fourth goal of the game six minutes before the end.

Buckley said: “This time last year we were bottom of the table, so I’m delighted to be in the top six.”

OLDHAM Boro were defeated 3-0 at home to Irlam.
Tony Mills’ side made the worst possible start, when Dean Tyman put the visitors ahead after three minutes.

Boro weathered the storm, but slipped further behind after an hour, when Ashley Kelly was on the mark.

Adam Pegg put the outcome beyond doubt when he made it 3-0 10 minutes later.

Mills said: “We were punished by a good team, and it was a tough afternoon for us.”

MOSSLEY went down to a 4-2 home defeat at the hands of Lancaster City in the Evo-Stik League Division One North.
Max Rothwell gave the visitors the lead three minutes before the interval, and Paul Jarvis pounced to double the advantage on the stroke of half time.

With City firmly in the driving seat, the Lilywhites had little option but to throw players forward and chase the game.

But the away side made it 3-0 just nine minutes after the restart, through a Josh Kenworthy strike.

Mike Fish gave Shaun Higgins’ side some hope with a goal just after the hour mark, but Rothwell found the target again for City with six minutes of the contest remaining, sliding the ball past goalkeeper Peter Collinge, who was back from suspension for the hosts.

A Michael Thomas strike in added time served as little more than a consolation for Mossley.
