Newton sets ball rolling for Cot

SNOOKER: LITTLE Cot extended their lead at the top of the Oldham Amateur Snooker League table to six points thanks to a
4-2 home victory over closest rivals Moss Inn ‘A’.
D Newton got the hosts off to the perfect start in a close frame before D Balcerzak added the second to put Cot 2-0 ahead.
B Cunniffe pulled a frame back for Moss Inn and M Webb levelled the scores with the help of a 30 break.
With the match evenly-poised, S Connell took the final frame for Little Cot to clinch a vital win.
High-fives for Comrades ‘A’
LEADERS Comrades ‘A’ returned to winning ways in the Saw-Tech Snooker League with a 5-1 victory over Cricket Club.
Moss Inn moved into joint second place after defeating Comrades ‘B’ 5-1. Comrades started brightly with a win from M Evans, which included a fine break of 40, but it was all in vain as Moss Inn took the remaining frames.
Academy’s seven up
OLDHAM Snooker Academy defeated Frames ‘B’ of Hyde 7-0 in Division One of the Manchester League, with victories from Craig Atherton, Danny Gleeson, Sajid Zamurd, Ian Atherton and Martin McGuiness.
And Oldham ‘B’ defeated Frames ‘A’ 5-2 to extend their lead at the top of the table.
Oldham went 2-0 up thanks to Tanveer Hussain and Dr Majid Ali, but Frames won the next two before Oldham skipper Kamran Saeed overcame a 19-points deficit to clinch his frame on the pink and secure the aggregate.
The ‘B’ team lead the way with 43 points, with Oldham ‘A’ on 39.
In Division Two, Oldham ‘C’ found themselves 3-0 down at Reddish Cons ‘B’.
But Amir Nazir took the next frame and captain Naveed Mohammed won 113-53 to seal the aggregate and a 4-3 team success.
