Unfavourable forecast could bring more problems

RUGBY:
LOCAL clubs have fingers, toes and just about everything else crossed for this weekend.
However, with an unfavourable outlook— snow and frost is apparently on its way — the weather could turn out to be the winner again.
The icy snap put paid to last Saturday’s fixtures involving Saddleworth Rangers and Waterhead in the National Conference League — Oldham St Anne’s had a free day — while the Kukri North-West Counties League was also hit hard.
Basement boys Oldham St Anne’s ‘A’ lost 16-12 at Albert Park in Division One and Higginshaw conceded their game at Leyland Warriors in Division Three.
But the remaining matches involving Waterhead ‘A’, Saddleworth Rangers ‘A’ and Fitton Hill Bulldogs were postponed.
Hollinwood’s match at Stainland Stags in the Pennine League Division Five did go ahead.
They were hoping for maximum points to maintain their promotion hopes, but made a sloppy start.
Three converted tries gave the hosts an 18-0 lead, before Warren Taylor touched down for Hollinwood.
Prop Peter Dobson followed suit to make it 18-8, but the match was abandoned before half-time due to a brawl.
