Victoria in heavy defeat
Date published: 17 December 2010
AMATEUR FOOTBALL: OLDHAM Victoria lost 9-2 at home to Droylsden Amateurs in the Lancashire and Cheshire League Division Two.
Elsewhere, Santos held on to second spot after defeating Moorside Rangers 4-0.
The triumph took them to within eight points of leaders Bedians reserves.
Steve Cass put Santos in front, before Keith Kurpass doubled the advantage just after the break.
Tim Buxton headed home to make the game safe, and Kurpass completed his brace before the end.
Division ‘C’ action saw Santos seconds slump to a 5-1 loss at the hands of high-flying Bedians.
AFC Oldham edged a tight encounter with Hillgate 4-3 in Division ‘E’.
Matches called off
THE frosty snap meant there was no local action in the Lancashire Amateur League and Huddersfield and District League.
In the D & J Builders (North-West) Ltd Oldham Sunday League, the only game played was Highfield United’s win over Oddies Athletic (see John Gilder’s Match of the Day).
And in the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League, Springhead lost 5-2 at home to Shire Academics in the West Riding County FA Challenge Cup.
The match between Limeside Athletic ‘B’ and Parkside at Limeside Park was declared as fit for play following a pitch inspection. But overnight frost meant the pitch had hardened too much. The game was postponed at 11am on match day.
