Icy blast to hit striker’s return

NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL: OLDHAM Boro have Darren Scanlon available for selection after the striker returned from army duty.
However, with Scanlon back for just three weeks, there is no guarantee he will so much as kick a ball in anger.
Boro are supposed to host rivals Chadderton on Monday in Division One of the Vodkat North-West Counties League (3pm kick-off), but boss Tony Mills says it is “99.9-per-cent certain to be off” as the playing surface is still frozen.
Mills said: “It is good to have Darren back as he is an important member of the squad, but it is difficult to see when we will play.
“The decision on the Chadderton game will probably be made on the morning of the match.
“It is a shame because we started to get a bit of momentum just before all of this bad weather arrived, but that’s the way it goes sometimes.”
