IN THE NICK OF TIME . . . Hollinwood’s John Byram releases the ball before being tackled by a Keighley Town ‘A’ opponent.
HOLLINWOOD, despite missing several regulars, swept into round two of the Pennine League’s Supplementary Cup with a 32-0 win at home to Keighley Town ‘A’.
Andy Gorey set the ball rolling for the home side with a try, which was quickly followed by another from the hard-working Brett Mason.
A penalty from Gorey stretched Hollinwood’s lead to 10-0 at the break and already Keighley’s hopes of victory looked bleak.
The hosts played expansive rugby in the second half, and the approach paid off with a third try, this time from Paddy Jennings. Gorey added the conversion.
Jennings went over again moments later, with Gareth Benias successfully taking over the kicking duties.
John Byram dictated play in the second period, and his performance earned him the man-of-the-match award.
There was no let up from Hollinwood, with Gorey crossing for his second try, which was followed by a Rob Penswick effort. Gorey, with the conversion, wrapped up the scoring.
Penswick, along with Pete Jackson, Mason and Byram, excelled in defence, while Ian Hunt and Rick Roberts showed up well from the replacements’ bench.
