Preston inspires Oldham

NETBALL: OLDHAM, spurred on by player-of-the-match Charlotte Preston, recorded a deserved 49-46 win over Deeside in the Northern League.

Goal shooter Preston (16) posted a nine-out-of-10 completion rate in the opening quarter, while goal attack Sarah Brennan bagged four out of five.

However, errors on the Oldham side left the match all-square at 13-13 at the first break.

Kirsty Bloomfield (wing attack) and Khadejah Pemberton (wing defence) were introduced, and they played their part as Oldham built up a 27-24 advantage.

Deeside battled on, but captain Debbie Hallas and Gemma McDermott kept them at bay.

Leading 37-33 at the start of the final quarter, Oldham continued to dominate, with Leanne Murphy and Harriet Gill shifting the ball up court at speed.

This, along with the accuracy of the shooters, ensured Oldham clinched victory.
