BOWLS:

TWO of the Chadderton Bowling League’s leading teams have withdrawn from the ‘A’ Division for the 2011 season.

Rochdale outfit Syke, winners of the title on several occasions, and top Hyde club George and Dragon have given notice to quit at the league’s annual meeting which will be held at West End BC next Tuesday (8pm).

Syke spokesman Peter Craig said: “We have been struggling to raise a team for a few years and this year we only have seven definites, which is not enough.”

Dragon stalwart Tommy Heyes said the club had decided to enter a team in the Altrincham LV League which has fixtures on a Monday night — the same as the Chadderton League.

The Chadderton League is expected to recommend that Royton — relegated from the ‘A’ Division last season — stay in the top division.

And the same could well apply to Wrigley Mill, who finished bottom last year, but are putting a team in the Chadderton League despite the fire which destroyed their pavilion at the end of last year.

Nimble Nook ‘A’ and Friezland will also play in the ‘A’ Division in 2011 after being promoted last season.
