Avro 4, Hollinwood 2
AMATEUR FOOTBALL: Avro are on course for more silverware following victory over local rivals Hollinwood in the semi-final of the Manchester County FA Challenge Trophy at the Lancaster Club.

This was a clash between two local sides experiencing vastly contrasting campaigns in the Premier Division of the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League.

While Avro are flying high and on course to retain the title, Hollinwood are anchored to the bottom of the pile after the turmoil of the close season.

And while Avro thoroughly deserved their success, which takes them through to a final clash with Wythenshawe Town on April 1, Hollinwood showed plenty of promise.

There were some basic errors which allowed Avro to race into a three-goal lead inside the opening 20 minutes which Hollinwood manager Fred Hardicre was none too happy about.

But after that salvo there was only going to be one outcome to the tie.

Hollinwood's cause wasn't helped by a fifth-minute injury to defender Tony Hanlon - he was replaced by Barry Foster - and it was the first half showing that ultimately let down Hollinwood.

Hollinwood are in cup action again tomorrow when they entertain Springhead in the last eight stage of the Gilgryst Cup at Chapel Road, (3pm).
