TABLE TENNIS: GROTTON’S Shaun Ellis scored a straight-sets treble, but could not prevent his side from going down 7-3 to Saddleworth ‘A’ in Division One of the Oldham Table Tennis League.
Meanwhile, BAE ‘A’ added to their ‘B’ team’s relegation worries when they inflicted a 9-1 beating.
Tom Lang and Tony Bates recorded maximums.
Match of the week in Division Two was the clash of first v third, top-of-the-table Hyde YMCA ‘A’ prevailing 6-4 at Hollinwood ‘C’.
Geoff Ogden had a treble, while Ken Ward won twice, a feat matched by Hollinwood’s Jack Christian.
Gilders, and Martin Nicholls in particular, had a tremendous week as the team defeated the top two in Division Three. Nicholls was unbeaten in both matches.
