TABLE TENNIS: MATTY Evans, of Hollinwood ‘B’, continues to upset some established players in Division One of the Oldham and District Table Tennis League.

Carrying on his rich vein of form, he won his three singles matches against Rosehill, but was unable to prevent his team going down to a 6-4 defeat.

The Rosehill team of Richard Sarre, Dave Pegg and Phil Ashworth won two apiece.

Honeywell ‘B’ also lost 6-4, to MC&MA, who had Tristram Swan’s treble to thank for their victory. Lucasz Maciejewski and Peter Fowler registered doubles for Honeywell.

In Division Two, Werneth ‘C’ maintained their promotion push with an 8-2 defeat of their ‘D’ team.

Paul Wilkinson was the ‘C’ side’s star with a treble. Mike Pellowe responded with an excellent double for the ‘D’ team.

In another derby clash, Honeywell ‘D’ and ‘C’ teams went head-to-head, with the latter coming out on top 8-2, despite a brace from Paul Carter. Barrie Royle was undefeated for the ‘C’ team.

It was honours even when Saddleworth ‘B’ and Coldhurst ‘B’, third and fourth respectively in Division Three, locked horns.

Saddleworth started strongly, building up a 4-1 advantage — Alex Griffiths won three — only for Coldhurst to come back and lead 5-4.

But Saddleworth clinched the doubles to secure a draw.

This result allowed Oldham Owls ‘A’ to go second in the table with a 7-3 win over Werneth ‘E’. Dave Harthan scored a maximum for the Owls.

In Division Four, a two-man Owls ‘B’ team upset second-placed Coldhurst ‘D’ with a stunning 6-4 triumph.

A hat-trick from Dinesh Gorasia and a Colin Ogden double did the damage for Owls.

And in-form Elena Tepelus was undefeated for Our Lady’s ‘C’ against the experienced Honeywell ‘G’ team.

However, her efforts were in vain as her team were beaten 6-4. Tom Loftus, Leo Cogger and Ronnie Holt won two apiece for Honeywell.
