NETBALL: THE desire to build towards a bright future is ‘catching on’ at Hathewshaw Community Netball Club.
Set up nearly six years ago by Debbie Chapman, the council’s development officer, the club enjoy strong ties with Oldham Netball Academy and Oldham Netball Club, where players can progress to.
Hathershaw nurture dedicated volunteers to coach or manage teams, with a long-term aim of becoming self-sustainable and community-led.
Enthusiastic individuals sacrificing their spare time was a major factor in the under-18s Hathershaw Angels lifting the Oldham Sports Centre League title last season.
Debbie said: “Once things got off the ground you could see the progress being made at Hathershaw.
“Oldham Netball Club and Tameside Netball Club have links to Hathershaw and will offer players the opportunity to play at a higher level.
“The dedicated coaches at the club help players get to that standard.”
Hathershaw are working towards CAPS status, which is the All England Netball Club accreditation for clubs working with children and young people.
The under-12s play at the Oldham Sports for All Hall in Hollinwood, while the under-14s, 16s and 18s participate in Oldham Sports Centre League games.
Links to Holy Rosary Primary School and Oldham Hulme Grammar School bid to encourage more youngsters to give the sport a try.
Call Debbie on 07725 938889 if you are interested in volunteering at the club.
