NETBALL: GRANGETOWN’S unbeaten home record was smashed by Oldham Netball Club, who breezed to a 67-22 win against their Northumbrian opponents in the Northern League.
The experienced duo of team captain Debbie Hallas and Suzy Chapman, mixed with the speed of youngsters Harriet Gill and Charlotte Preston, proved too much for the hosts.
Leading by eight after the first quarter, Oldham gave a debut to newcomer Megan Tann in the second at goal keeper and by half-time, the visitors were in control and able to make some changes.
Accurate shooting from goal attack Sarah Brennan pushed Oldham further into the lead and in the final quarter, talented young players Shannon Westwood and Khadeja Pemberton were introduced, the latter making two breathtaking interceptions.
“The whole team were magnificent,” said coach Mike Greenwood. “Player of the match was a close one, but it has to go to goal defence Amber Hazelton for her continual interceptions throughout the game.”
