Jet-set pair off to Dubai

ROUNDERS: TWO girls from Shaw are bound for Dubai to play rounders for England.

Sophie Montgomery and Becky Hewson are in the England under-14s squad for the

week-long trip to the Gulf state.

The 13-year-olds fly out on February 21 for two matches against the host nation.

The duo impressed during trials in Rotherham after which a squad of 16 was announced.

England selectors cast their eye over the girls on a recommendation from their schools.

Sophie attends Our Lady’s and Becky is at Crompton House.

A rounders team is made up of nine players. All have key roles to play with the bat and in the field, while Sophie is also used as a bowler.

Preparations start for the internationals start next month with a get-together in Taunton, Somerset.

Though accommodation is free, the trip will still cost each player £1,000 for flights and kit.
