Angling: TODMORDEN Angling Society’s trophy match on Croft Fishery was a tight affair, with the top four all posting double-figure weights.

Pete Fitton led the way with 29lb made up of carp, taken on the pole and pellet, fished long.

Second-placed Simon Newsham, with his tip and maggot approach, netted 26lb of carp, ahead of Pete Mottram who was third courtesy of carp taken on the tip and maggot, which added up to 24lb.

Todmorden’s open match on the Kingsway length of the Rochdale Canal saw some brilliant catches.

Steve Ashworth won thanks to 20lb 15oz made up of roach and bream which fell to bread punch.

Runner-up Dave Bradley mustered an all-roach 15lb 5oz, followed by Bruce Clark’s 13lb 10oz of roach.

THE Chadderton Mill AC winter league, contested on the club water, is providing some excellent sport with double figures needed in virtually every match.
Phil Hulme was on top with his half a dozen carp taken on corn, fished towards the tins on peg one weighing in at 22lb 6oz.

Second was Jim Evans with just one carp and plenty of silvers falling to maggot.

Ivan Porter was third courtesy of a 14lb net.

The second match was won by one of the best young anglers in the North- West, 17-year-old Aiden Bordiak (Tight Lines). Aiden put in a superb performance with his maggot fished long approach netting him 34lb of silvers.

That beat organiser Lee Humphries (Gilders GTI Matchman) into second with his identical approach netting him 31lb 8oz followed by Phil Hulme’s four carp totalling 20lb 12oz.
