TABLE TENNIS:
OLDHAM women are celebrating title glory in the Lancashire and Cheshire League.
The trio of Mandy Winskill, Doreen Schofield and Karen Hill teamed up to retain the 2010/11 crown — and they achieved it without dropping a set.
In Division One of the Oldham and District League, it was a great week for Hollinwood ‘A’ as they recorded two wins to ease their relegation fears.
They defeated bottom-of-the-table Coldhurst ‘A’ 7-3 — Dave Cheetham was undefeated — and secured a tremendous 6-4 victory over Honeywell ‘B’. Youngster Paul King registered a brilliant treble for Hollinwood.
There was a great match in Division Two at Hyde, with leaders the ‘A’ team overcoming their ‘B’ side 6-4 thanks to doubles from Ken Ward and Geoff Ogden.
Steve Hilton was superb for the ‘B’ team. He completed a hat-trick, which included a deuce victory over Lionel Royle.
But Royle turned things round with a narrow win against Vernon Hyde after being 10-7 behind in the final set.
In Division Three, Gary Crossley starred for second-placed Saddleworth ‘B’ against promotion rivals Unison ‘C’. The experienced campaigner was unbeaten in an 8-2 success.
Dave Wild won two for Unison, who had earlier defeated Honeywell ‘F’ 9-1.
Our Lady’s ‘A’ enjoyed a derby double in Division Four. Against their ‘B’ and ‘C’ teams, they emerged victorious by 7-3 scorelines on both occasions.
The rapidly-improving James Chappell was undefeated in both fixtures to cement his place at the top of the ‘most wins’ table.
