Bad day at the office for Mossley

NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL:

MOSSLEY slumped to a 4-0 defeat at Skelmersdale United in Evo-Stik League Division One North.

The hosts broke the deadlock seconds before the half-time whistle.

Mossley lost the ball in the middle of the park and it broke to Ryan Wade, who fired past goalkeeper Peter Collinge.

The visitors pressed for an equaliser after the break and Matty Kay's free-kick went narrowly wide.

But the home side doubled their advantage in the 65th minute when McGinn punished the Mossley midfield for again losing possession in a dangerous area.

It could have been a lot worse for Shaun Higgins' men had it not been for the form of Collinge, who denied Skelmersdale on numerous occasions.

However, there was nothing he could do when Wade glanced home his second strike of the game.

With time running out, Mossley's misery was compounded by a Chris Almond effort after the away team's defence failed to clear the ball.

CHADDERTON edged a topsy-turvy game 3-2 against AFC Blackpool in Vodkat North-West Counties League Division One.
The hosts missed several chances in a scrappy first period and paid the price when Mathew Muscroft converted a penalty three minutes before the interval to give AFC Blackpool the lead.

Paul Buckley's team found themselves back on level terms in the 55th minute. Top scorer James Curley blasted the ball home from 20 yards.

And three minutes later Chadderton were in front. Curley was felled in the box and Tom Hughes made no mistake from the penalty spot.

The highlight of the match arrived with seven minutes remaining.

Troy Hayder's piledriver from all of 40 yards flew into the net to hand the home side a two-goal cushion.

Martin Baird pulled a goal back for AFC Blackpool with three minutes left on the clock to give Chadderton a few jitters, but they managed to hang on and claim the three points.

Buckley said: "I am delighted with the result because Blackpool are a big, well-organised side.”

IT was a bad day at the office for Oldham Boro in the NWCL - they went down to a 6-0 defeat at Runcorn Town.
Connor Anderson put the hosts in front just after the half-hour mark, and three minutes later Tony Wynne doubled the advantage.

Anderson struck again just before the interval to give Boro a mountain to climb.

Danny Doulton made it 4-0 six minutes after the restart, as the visitors failed to find a way back into the game.

Anderson completed his hat-trick in the 70th minute, and Wynne earned himself a brace with a goal eight minutes from time, to make it a thoroughly demoralising afternoon for Boro and their manager Tony Mills.
