TABLE TENNIS: COLDHURST ‘A’, receiving 152 points, were pushed all the way by their Werneth counterparts in Division One of the Oldham Table Tennis League Handicap Cup.
With the final doubles match to play in the round two clash, the lead was down to 16 points.
But Werneth fell short by just one in the end, having won the fourth game of the doubles 11-3.
Darryl Meredith was the pick of the Werneth players, gaining 73 points. Simon King (-37),l Paul Howarth (-41) and Simon Walsh (-58) formed the victorious Coldhurst team.
Oldham’s top team Glodwick also fell narrowly short against Honeywell ‘B’ after conceding a 139-point start.
The match again came down to the final set of doubles, with Honeywell holding onto a 14-point lead.
With the doubles game left, the advantage was still seven points, but an 11-7 score to Glodwick was good enough for the Honeywell team of Lucas Maciejewski (-44) Steve Barber (-29) and Ken Hayes (-52) to cling to a three-point victory.
Hollinwood ‘B’, receiving a 77-point start, defeated Rosehill by just six points.
Hollinwood’s Matty Evans gained five points with Mohammed Sajid on minus six.
