Stylish seconds put rivals to the sword

RUGBY UNION: OLDHAM RU seconds roared to a 47-0 home victory over Thornton Cleveleys.
A haul of 12 points in the first 20 minutes put Oldham on the right track, man-of-the-match Andy Wood fending off four challenges before feeding Jon Maslen, who touched down. Scott Danby added the extras.
Wood capped a fine team move by crossing after 15 minutes and how the visitors did not concede any more before the break was a mystery.
Thornton tried to gain a foothold in the game after the interval and put together some good moves, with no end product.
The hosts extended their advantage when scrum-half Matty Collins, picking the ball up from a scrum, spotted a gap in the defence and crossed, just left of the posts. Danby goaled.
Just after the hour mark Wood notched his second try with a 25-yard charge down the line, followed by an impressive Danby conversion.
Debutant Chris Idehene got in on the act, taking three would-be tacklers over the line with him. Danby did the rest.
Back-row Brian Massey took the ball from his own 22 to cross, before Wood found Chris McKenzie who added a well-deserved try. Exras were added by Danby on both occasions.
