NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL: CHADDERTON earned the bragging rights last night courtesy of a 1-0 win at neighbours Oldham Boro in the Vodkat North-West Counties League.
Top scorer James Curley struck what proved to be the winner before the half-hour mark, after good work from Chris Pauley.
The visitors enjoyed the lion’s share of the possession in the first half, but Boro hit back after the break and missed several good chances.
Chadderton boss Paul Buckley was delighted to see his side’s promotion push stay on track.
He said: “Derbies are always tough because the form book goes out of the window, so it is a very important result for us.
“We battered them in the first half and should have had more than one goal.
“To be fair they came back at us after the break and hit the woodwork.
“They were always going to make chances and get at us because they were the home team.
“You could tell it was like a cup final for Oldham Boro. They wanted to throw a spanner in the works but we kept plugging away and came away with three points.
“We have a lot of hard games coming up but confidence is high.”
While Boro will be disappointed with the result, they are still regaining match fitness
following a string of postponements, which has seen them play just four times since the middle of November.
Tony Mills’ men were showing an upturn in form before the cold snap kicked in at the end of last year, and aim to replicate those kind of displays once they put together a run of games.
MOSSLEY went down to a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Leigh Genesis last night, in the Evo-Stik League Division One North.
The Lilywhites were behind after five minutes, when Marvin McDonald found the net.
Shaun Higgins’ promotion hopefuls pressed for an equaliser but saw Conor Millington double the visitors’ advantage with 11 minutes remaining.
