Dave stamps his class on open match

ANGLING:
POSTAL worker Dave Machin is a cracking angler who really thinks about his fishing.
He has proved this during the Diggle AC matches in which he has been in the money every week, and also in open matches where his record is superb.
This week’s Bradshaw Fishery open match saw Dave dominate proceedings with his maggot and caster approach netting him 28lb 2oz of skimmers and roach.
That beat the previous week’s winner Chris Hogan, who used similar tactics to tempt 26lb 4oz of silvers.
Next came Chadderton Mill AC regular Ian Cox with 20lb 8oz.
Another Bradshaw open match on lake four was won by Pete Cunniffe (Gilders), whose preferred long pole and caster approach set him apart from the rest.
He collected 25lb 6oz of good roach and skimmers to beat Steve Leach (17lb) and Chris Hogan (16lb 8oz).
ROYTON angler and former travelling partner of mine, Keith Smith, loves the River Weaver so he must have been over the moon with winning the Northwich DAA winter league.
Drawn in a good area facing the mouth of the River Dane, Keith decided on a groundbait feeder with red maggot on the hook and it paid off to the tune of 23lb 15oz of bream and skimmers.
Dave Williams took second with his 22lb 15oz catch also made up of skimmers and bream taken on the tip.
TODMORDEN AS held their members-only trophy match on Townhouse which, despite freezing conditions, fished well.
The winner was Chris Oliver with his tip and pellet approach tempting ten carp for 35lb.
Runner-up John Mellor used pole and pellet to assemble a 31lb catch, while Chris Lett was third with 11lb 10oz of carp.
VENUE GUIDE
Park Lake – Worth a chuck now the weather has improved. Bronze maggot as good as anything for silvers.
Huddersfield Narrow Canal – Should start to fish and with plenty of skimmers about the match length at Ward Lane should see some good sport.
Rochdale Canal – Fishing well at Rochdale end, with Slattocks, Boarshaw and Rose of Lancaster lengths good. Bread punch is catching plenty of bream, roach and skimmers.
Chadderton Mill Lodge – Pleasure weights to 40lb. Carp and ide making up most catches, with maggot fished in the water or pellet on the deck catching plenty of fish.
