AMATEUR FOOTBALL:

SPRINGHEAD Libs ‘B’ sprung the surprise of the third round in the D & J Builders (North-West) Ltd Oldham Sunday League’s Challenge Cup third round, with a 5-1 win at Manor AFC.

The Division Three outfit proved unstoppable against their Martin Buckley Division Two counterparts.

D Hodgkins and V Andre helped themselves to two goals apiece, with A Johnson joining them on the

scoresheet. D Diveney replied for the hosts.

Jack Abbott Premier League side High Crompton earned a 2-1 win at David Giblin Division One team Limeside Athletic ‘A’, thanks to goals from S Dean and N Campbell.

Rife Range Reds raced to a 6-2 triumph at the expense of Failsworth Athletic.

N Jackson struck twice, while J Jacombs, N Eastmond, A Young and James Curley — who also plays for Chadderton — did the rest of the damage.

R Massey, J Noicely, D Knagg and M Hopwood were on target in Rifle Range Royle Blues’ 4-2 victory at Anglers Arms.

Highfield United were edged out 4-3 by Lark Inn, for whom W Clarke, R Shaughnessy, D Schofield and D Smith netted.

T Lloyd and A Biggins both bagged braces in Weavers Arms’ 4-2 defeat of Royal Oak.

Top-flight action saw leaders FC Royton earn a 2-0 win at FC Broadgate, courtesy of a D Halliwell double.

Second-placed Chaddy End lost ground following a 3-3 draw at FC Carsons, for whom M Seers, M Hoggard and J Munson scored.

D O’Connell and S Barrow scored two goals apiece and Muzafar Ali also found the target for Coppice United ‘A’ in their 5-1 triumph over Red Star.

Khartoum Northern ‘A’ won 4-2 at Fitton Hill Rangers after A Murdoch and R Radcliffe both struck twice.
