Mossley slump to defeat

MOSSLEY suffered a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Cammell Laird in the Evo-Stik League Division One North.
The Lilywhites enjoyed plenty of possession early on, and Steve Settle was unlucky to see his shot go the wrong side of the post.
But the visitors took the lead against the run of play after 22 minutes, when defender Chris Adamson pounced on a rebound from Paul Wheeler's free-kick.
This inspired Laird and they took the game to Shuan Higgins' men.
Target man Aaron Bowen doubled their lead just after the half-hour mark when he volleyed in Jordan Evason's delivery.
The hosts searched for a way back into the contest after the interval and halved the deficit with seven minutes remaining.
Former Woodley Sports forward Kristian Dennis powered home from close range.
With Mossley’s Mike Fish offside, Laird expected the referee to blow his whistle, but the striker moved out of the way and was not active.
But Mossley failed to find that all-important equaliser and slumped to their second successive home loss.
The Lilywhites now find themselves in 12th position in the table on 39 points.
CHADDERTON were beaten 2-1 at home by leaders Runcorn Town in the Vodkat North-West Counties League Division One.
James McShane gave the visitors a flying start with a 13th-minute effort, and Runcorn found themselves two goals to the good just four minutes later through Connor Anderson.
Joe Jacobs pulled a goal back for Paul Buckley's side after 26 minutes, but it proved to be the last goal of the game as the away side returned to Merseyside with three points.
Despite their defeat, Chadderton remain firmly in the promotion hunt.
They sit in third place, just five points behind their weekend conquerers and second-placed AFC Blackpool, although Buckley's men have played more games than the teams around them.
OLDHAM Boro's match at Atherton Collieries in the NWCL was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
