TABLE TENNIS: LEADERS Glodwick suffered a first defeat in two years when they lost 8-2 against a strong Saddleworth team in Division One of the Oldham Table Tennis League.
Paul Cicchelli and Darren Lindley registered trebles on a great night for Saddleworth.
At the other end of the table, second-bottom Aerospace ‘B’ recorded a narrow 6-4 win over fellow strugglers Hollinwood ‘A’.
Mick Hill and ‘Fast’ Eddie Kalinowski bagged doubles for BAE, as did Dave Cheetham and Paul King for Hollinwood.
In Division Two, Uppermill ‘A’ kept up their promotion push, but were made to work hard for a 6-4 victory over Droylsden.
’Mill had Dave Grundy’s treble to thank for the victory, which included a five-game defeat of Miles Benjamin.
Benjamin and Tim Greenald recorded two wins apiece for Droylsden.
Born-again Jack Christian, returning from a sabbatical, inspired Hollinwood ‘C’ to a 6-4 win over Honeywell ‘C’.
Christian enjoyed a treble and was supported by two from Callum Jones. Barrie Royle replied with a brace for Honeywell.
