Seventh heaven for firsts

HOCKEY: OLDHAM firsts illustrated their promotion credentials with a 7-0 hammering of visiting Bolton in Division One of the Greater Manchester Hockey League.
The local outfit started the game in dominant fashion with Oona Cassidy converting a Rachael Johnson corner to open the scoring.
Cassidy also got the second at the far post and Karen Rowley made it three before half-time by flicking in a Louise Howard cross.
Player-of-the-match Johnson smashed home a strike from a penalty corner as the goals continued to flow, before Howard grabbed a brace of her own. The first was a powerful strike from a penalty corner and the second a great individual effort.
Unrelenting Rowley topped off the scoring action with an excellent first-time strike from Amanda Smith’s cross.
