Angling: CHADDERTON Mill AC matches are producing huge nets, with Aiden Boyden weighing in 70lb of carp and ide to win one recent contest.

Steve Hodgson emerged victorious in the latest Winter League match on the club water.

The Rochdale Anglers rod used the pole and pellet attack for 30lb of carp. Organiser Lee Humphries (GTI Gilders) was second with a mostly ide catch on waggler and maggot up in the water (29lb).

Graham Mitchell, also of GTI Gilders, had three small carp as well as ide in a 28lb 2oz net for third place. He applied maggot up in the water.

Darren Webb (Medlock Bridge AC) was fourth with 26lb of carp and ide on the pole and maggot.

TODMORDEN AS are staging an open match on the Rochdale Canal on Sunday.

A decent turnout is expected as the venue is in good form, with pleasure anglers catching anything up to double figures of roach and bream. The latest match was won with a bag weighing in at more than 20lbs.

Bread punch is the best bait at this time of year, although the caster should not be dismissed.

Fishing is relatively simple, with a decent cup of liquidised bait introduced at the bottom of the far shelf at the start. Feed again as the bites start to slow.

There are a few tench starting to show, with samples of more then 5lb being caught. Bread punch and caster are the baits to use.

Please remember, Castleton upwards is for Todmorden AS members-only water.

THE next Todmorden AS trophy match is at Croft Fishery on Sunday. March 13.

The latest Todmorden AS open match on Townhouse saw Pete Fitton top the weights with eight carp taken on the pole and pellet for 38lb.

Simon Newsham, the runner-up, opted for the tip and pellet approach for eight carp in a 28lb net.

Third-best Rob McKendry employed tip and pellet to tempt 20lb of carp, while Graham Mallinson’s 18lb 8oz was good enough for fourth place.

Meanwhile, the Todmorden AS Junior taster day is on July 31 at Ramsdenwood.

Junior coaching days are on May 7 and 21, June 2 and 16.

Venue Guide

Park Lake: Bronze or red maggot for silvers. Frost this week could send fish near to the bottom, but a few specimens will still show.

Huddersfield Narrow Canal: SADAS waters for skimmers, chub and carp. Fishing remains on the hard side, but with spring almost upon us, sport should improve.

Rochdale Canal: Most sections fishing well, but the Rochdale end is solid, with roach and bream attracted by bread punch.

Chadderton Mill Lodge: Match weights of more than 70lb. Maggot up in the water the best tactic for ide and carp.
