Fifth defeat in a row for Lilywhites

NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL: MOSSLEY suffered their fifth straight defeat in the Evo-Stik League Division One North, losing 2-1 at Garforth Town and ending the game with nine men.

The Lilywhites were behind after 11 minutes when David Brown pounced for the hosts.

And there was a mountain to climb when Sam Hare received a straight red card after half-an-hour for throwing the ball at an opponent.

The second period got off to the worst possible start, with Paul Walker doubling Town's advantage just four minutes after the restart.

Matty Kay pulled one back for Shaun Higgins' men with 60 minutes of the game played, following good work from substitute Mike Fish.

But with time running out, Kay was shown two yellow cards in the space of two minutes for a pair of mistimed challenges.

Mossley could not find the all-important equaliser that would have arrested their slide.

With the Lilywhites’ chances of reaching the play-offs rapidly decreasing, Higgins is likely to blood several youngsters from the club’s successful youth team in the coming weeks.

OLDHAM Boro rescued a point with a last-gasp equaliser at Holker Old Boys, which earned them a 1-1 draw in the Vodkat North-West Counties League Division One contest.
Gareth Smith gave the home side the lead after 11 minutes.

But Tony Mills' men never gave up and their attitude was rewarded with an injury-time strike from Arnie Nsimbe.

The draw moves Boro up a place to 15th in the table, and just one point behind nearest side Ashton Town.

NWCL title hopefuls Chadderton lost 1-0 at home to Daisy Hill.
Craig Xvereb produced the winning goal with just three minutes of the game remaining, seconds after Tom Hughes missed a penalty for Paul Buckley's side.

It leaves Chadderton in third position, 11 points behind leaders Runcorn Town and second-placed AFC Blackpool.

Buckley said: "It was a bad day at the office.

“The defeat was completely self-inflicted, although Daisy Hill played well and stuck to their task.

"We still had chances to win it —Adam Edwards missed three one-on-ones, and obviously the penalty didn't go in.

"But the players have to learn, they can't go into a game casually thinking 'we will be alright', they have to work hard every time.

"I think their confidence was shot once the penalty was missed.

“We just have to regroup and go again next time."
