Nixon’s two-try show inspires Waterhead
Date published: 08 March 2011
AMATEUR RUGBY LEAGUE: WATERHEAD’S third win in a row created more daylight between themselves and the bottom two sides in National Conference League Division Two.
Shaw Cross Sharks were dispatched 21-4 on their own patch thanks in no small part to a brace of tries from Darren Nixon.
The centre grabbed the first of his double when he cut through for a score which Terry Fitzgerald goaled, and he was at it again midway through the first half.
Danny Annakin forced his way over to bring the deficit back to 12-4 as the sides swapped ends.
But Craig Highton found a gap on the hour to put Waterhead further in front, and a Fitzgerald drop goal and penalty sealed the victory.
