Half-century for Hollinwood

OFF TARGET... Andy Gorey (bottom) scored a try, but unusually missed several conversion attempts.
RUGBY LEAGUE: HOLLINWOOD roared into the last-eight of the Pennine Supplementary Cup with a 50-4 demolition of Emley Moor ‘A’.
Playing fast, open rugby, the local outfit were just too good for the hosts from over the tops.
Steve Hubbert started the ball rolling for Hollinwood with a try, before man-of-the-match Paddy Jennings also crossed.
Hubbert went over for his second try of the afternoon as the points continued to pile up.
Andy Gorey was having a bad day with his kicking, but he made amends with Hollinwood’s fourth touch down.
The attacks were relentless, and the tie was as good as over by half-time (24-0) after further scores from Dave Hughes and Jennings.
The second period was again dominated by the Pennine League Division Five side, with Emley having no answer to the numerous powerful drives and backing up from the visitors.
Next on the scoresheet was Matty McCullough, followed by Peter Jackson.
Then it was the turn of the in-form Rick Roberts to go over. For the first time in the tie, Gorey made no mistake with the conversion.
Another Roberts try, goal by Gorey, took Hollinwood, who sit second in the Rugby Oldham Challenge table, ever closer to the 50-point mark.
Emley crossed for a consolation try, but young Hubbert completed his hat-trick and Gorey kicked the conversion to bring up the half-century.
