Taylor storms to victory

Angling: ASIDE from winner Martin Taylor, weights were lower than expected at the Todmorden AS open match on the Kingsway length of the Rochdale Canal.
Taylor, of Trabrucco Halifax, had a cracking 22lb net of skimmers on the long pole, bread punch and caster.
There was a big gap to the next man, John Sedgewick (Hirst Tackle), who opted for the long pole and caster for some roach in a 6lb 5oz net.
Alan Crook (Maver NW) used bread and caster to tempt 4lb 9oz of roach for third place.
AN agreement has been reached between Todmorden AS and Burnley and Pendle Anglers.
It means that two Todmorden AS and two Burnley and Pendle licences will be available at Macks Tackle for each club to use.
Prompt return of the licences is essential if this trial is going to work. B&P waters include Lower house lodge, Rose Grove, Walverden Reservoir, Nelson and Foulridge Reservoir at Colne.
This is a great idea, allowing members of different clubs to try out each other’s waters without having to buy a card.
Foulridge is a superb venue. Matches were held on the water many years ago and, although it contains plenty of roach, bream tend to dominate catches. Long-range tipping is the best method for big bream, who weigh in at more than 4lbs.
SADDLEWORTH and District Angling Society are holding their annual meeting tonight at the Greenfield Conservative Club on Chew Valley Road (8pm). There is a potato pie supper for all those who attend.
ROYAL Mail driver Dave Machin is well known for his domination of the Diggle AC fixtures on Tanners Dam, but he is equally as good in open matches.
Machin is enjoying a fine run on the Partridge lakes, where he took first place in a quality midweek field.
After a slow start, Machin attracted f1s and carp to around the 3lb mark using pellet at nine metres for 37lb 12oz.
Fred Wright, the runner-up, had 37lb 1oz, while Richard O’Connor was third with 26lb 9oz of ide and f1s.
Venue Guide
Park Lake: Bronze or red maggot for silvers. Frost could send fish down to the bottom, but some are still feeding.
Huddersfield Narrow Canal: One pleasure angler bagged two chub in the region of 3lb mark and a 4lb bream on pellet. However, fishing is general patchy.
Ogden Reservoir: Plenty or roach tempted by waggler, pole and maggot. Pike anglers are catching, but nothing big. Day tickets £5 on bank or from Tight Lines, Shaw.
Eagle Mill Dam: One catch of 12 chub and a few bream on pellet.
Rochdale Canal: Rochdale lengths super for roach and skimmers on bread punch. Chadderton and Middleton length also worth a visit for plenty of roach and the odd bream. Boarshaw worth a try on bend for bream. Bread punch the best bait by far.
Chadderton Mill Lodge: Ide and carp making up top catches. Maggot up in the water is best attack.
