Mighty Quin strikes twice for FC Royton

AMATEUR FOOTBALL: IN-FORM FC Royton saw off top-flight rivals Coppice United ‘A’ 3-1 in the quarter-finals of the D & J Builders (North-West) Ltd Oldham Sunday League President’s Trophy.
Hitman R Quinlan bagged two goals and W Dean joined him on the scoresheet as the Jack Abbott Premier Division leaders roared to an emphatic victory.
M Ali replied with a consolation goal for United but they could not find a way back into the tie.
In the Premier Division Shield, FC Carsons defeated FC Broadgate 3-1 courtesy of strikes from D Murdock, M Terris and J Munson.
S Uren was on target for Broadgate.
Khartoum Northern ‘A’ lost 2-1 defeat at home to Red Star.
Top-flight league action saw Kristian Bocking score the only goal as mid-table High Crompton beat basement boys Failsworth Athletic 1-0.
S Gray, M King and M Wood were on the mark for Oldham GPO but they lost 6-3 at home to Rifle Range Royal Blues in the Division One Shield.
A Oakes and D Knagg grabbed two goals apiece for Royal Blues, and were joined
Oldham Sunday League on the scoresheet by J Pauley and R Massey.
Crompton Victoria and Khartoum Northern ‘B’ drew 4-4 in the Division Three Shield.
Victoria’s efforts came from J Ryder, B Fletcher and B Lord and an own goal.
In reply, M Hearne bagged a brace, and N Radcliffe and D Hardicre.
Extra-time should have been played but both teams were under the impression there would be a replay.
They will play 15 minutes each way on March 20.
Dorothy passes away
LOCAL football and particularly the Oldham Sunday League is mourning the death of Dorothy Guest, who has passed away after a short illness.
Dorothy, who is survived by four children, was one of the driving forces behind the now defunct South Chadderton FC.
She was the first recipient of the Oldham Sunday League’s Clarrie Newman Memorial Trophy, awarded to her last season in recognition of her contribution to the local football scene.
