AMATEUR FOOTBALL: ROYTON Town marked their first home game since mid-November with a 5-1 victory over Atherton Town in the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League Premier Division.
Allan Beckett opened the scoring with an unstoppable shot six minutes before the interval.
Michael Moss gave the hosts a two-goal cushion just before the hour mark, converting a Chris Mackay cross in fine style.
Mackay got in on the act with a 70th-minute strike, before substitute Jason Titterington struck with 11 minutes remaining.
Moss claimed his second goal of the game in the dying minutes after Atherton had managed a consolation effort from a rare attack.
There was no such joy for Springhead, who went down to a 3-0 defeat at home to high-flying Stockport Georgians.
Avro clinched a 2-1 triumph over Wythenshawe Town in the Manchester County FA Challenge Trophy final, and Hollinwood lost 5-1 to Walshaw Sports in the Gilgryst Cup semi-final (see John Gilder’s Match of the Day).
AFC OLDHAM 2005 suffered a 3-0 defeat at home to Heywood St James in the Lancashire and Cheshire League Division One.
Division Two action saw Santos edge to a 3-2 win at Aldermere, through two goals from Johnny Phillips and a Levi Morris strike.
