NON-LEGUE FOOTBALL: JOE Heap and Fabio Abreu are pushing for a place in Shaun Higgins’ Mossley squad when Chorley visit Seel Park tomorrow in the Evo-Stik League Division One North.

Midfielder Heap and striker Abreu, who were called up for England under-18s duty earlier this year, were on the scoresheet for the Lilywhites’ youth team in their 2-0 win over Ardwick in the Manchester FA Youth Cup semi-finals.

Higgins plans to give the pair match time before the end of a season that is threatening to fizzle out after five straight defeats.

FORMER Rossendale United manager Gary Brown starts his new role as first team coach of Oldham Boro tomorrow when they travel to AFC Blackpool in the Vodkat North-West Counties League.

Boro boss Tony Mills believes the presence of Brown can only be beneficial to his players in their bid to climb the table.

“Gary has a lot of experience and it is good to have him on board,” said Mills.

“He has some very good contacts, and we are hoping he can help us bring in four or five new players.

“We are looking to strengthen at left-back, central midfield, out wide and up front, and this is something we are working on.

“Hopefully some of them will join in time to be involved against AFC Blackpool.”

Boro welcome back Lee Deakin and Paul Brown from work commitments.

CHADDERTON go to Eccleshall tomorrow in the NWCL looking to get their promotion push back on track.

Despite three successive defeats they still occupy third position in the table, 11 points behind leaders Runcorn Town and second-placed AFC Blackpool.

Jon Rogers made his return from a knee injury in the midweek loss to Norton United, but is still short of full match fitness and may have to be content with a place on the substitutes’ bench tomorrow.
