Mossley misery

NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL: MOSSLEY went down to their sixth defeat on the spin after a 3-1 reverse at home to Chorley in the Evo-Stik League Division One North.

Tom Ince put the visitors ahead after just seven minutes after good work from John Cunliffe.

Ince's finish was too far into the top corner for Mossley goalkeeper Peter Collinge to reach.

Former Athletic forward Chris Hall came close to a quick equaliser for the hosts, but he just failed to get on the end of Mike Oates' teasing delivery.

Prolific marksman Steve Foster doubled Chorley's advantage after 23 minutes with a deft lob.

True to his word, Mossley boss Shaun Higgins continued to give youth a chance despite the scoreline, with reserve- team captain Mike Jones replacing Aaron Chalmers at the interval and giving an assured performance in defence.

The Lilywhites pulled back a goal just after the restart. Chris Rowney was fouled in the area and Matty Kay made no mistake from the spot. But Cunliffe scored the all-important third for Chorley after an hour.

CHADDERTON recovered from three straight defeats courtesy of a 1-0 win at Eccleshall in the Vodkat North-West Counties League.
Tom Hughes scored the only goal of the game after 10 minutes to get the visitors’ promotion push on track.

OLDHAM Boro suffered a 3-2 loss at second-placed AFC Blackpool in the NWCL, despite a late fightback.
Niall Commins put the hosts ahead a minute into the second period, which was followed by two quickfire goals from Ben Waddington.

Mike Cheetham pulled a goal back for Boro from the penalty spot with 20 minutes remaining, and five minutes later Lee Knowles netted for Tony Mills’ men.
