TABLE TENNIS: GLODWICK all but clinched their fifth Oldham Table Tennis League Division One title in a row after their 9-1 defeat of basement boys Coldhurst ‘A’.

The only hiccup was Simon Walsh’s five-set defeat of this year’s veteran’s champion Jeff Craighill.

Khamal Hussain and Zil Rahman were undefeated for Glodwick.

Gary Skinner’s treble was instrumental as Werneth ‘B’ secured a 6-4 win at Honeywell ‘B’.

Rob Carter weighed in with a double for Werneth and partnered Skinner to the vital doubles win.

In Division Two, Hyde ‘A’ took another step toward the title with an 8-2 defeat of Werneth ‘D’.

Ken Ward was in great form, registering a treble for Hyde. Mick Pellowe picked up Werneth’s points.

Despite a treble from in-form Dave Grundy, the promotion hopes of Uppermill ‘B’ took a dent when they were held to a 5-5 draw at home to Deaf ‘A’.

Liaquat Ali won two for Deaf and narrowly went down to Grundy in five sets after being two sets up.

This week’s surprise result was in Division Three, where lowly Werneth ‘E’ recorded an

8-2 victory of high-flying St Saviour’s — their fourth defeat in the last seven games.

Darren Mitzi and Suresh Patel both bagged maximums for Werneth in a match which featured one straight-sets game.

The fight for the second promotion place is tight.

The main protagonists, Grotton ‘B’, Saddleworth ‘B’ and Owls ‘A’, won 10-0, 10-0 and 9-1 respectively.

In Division Four, promotion-chasing Werneth ‘F’ were held to a 5-5 draw by Our Lady’s ‘B’, for whom Callum Allman clinched a superb treble.

Dave Jefferson and Ashley Murray won two apiece for Werneth.
